Continuing Education.

• Kansas requirements are established by state statutes and regulations: KSA 75-7b07(b)and KAR 16-4-2, 16-4-3, and 16-4-4.

  
  A short summary of these requirements is:
  • 8 hours each licensing period (4 hours annually)
  • Course topic is relevant to private investigations
  • Presented by a qualified instructor who must interact with student
  • Outline must be made available to each attendee
  • Attendance must be maintained
  • Courses from national or state professional associations and universities or colleges as well as qualified businesses are accepted.
  • Certificates of completion must be provided to each attendee
  • Some self-study or on-line programs do qualify, but these are limited. Private Detectives should evaluate whether they meet the state requirements before taking the courses.

• Missouri requirements are established in state statutes and regulations: RSMo 324.1122 and 20 CSR 2234-6.010

  
  A short summary of these requirements is:
  • 16 hours each licensing period (8 hours annually) for agency owners and independent or self-employed investigators; agency employees are 8 hours (4 annually)
  • Course topic is relevant to private investigations
  • Presented by a qualified instructor who must interact with student
  • Lesson plan must be approved by the licensing board.
  • Attendance must be maintained and provided to the licensing board.
  • Courses provided by MO licensed private investigator trainers do not require advance course approval or submission of attendance lists.
  • Certificates of completion must be provided to each attendee
  • Some self-study or on-line programs do qualify, but these are limited. Private Investigators should evaluate whether they meet the state requirements before taking the courses.
