Private Detective Insurance Information
KAPI has identified two Kansas insurance agencies who handle professional liability insurance which satisfies the Kansas licensing requirement found in KSA 75-7b16. KAPI has also identified other sources for similar insurance; the details are listed below:

- Coverage Type: Professional Liability, Errors & Omissions
- Coverage Amount: Minimum $300,000 per occurrence [Note: Kansas requires minimum of $100,000; Missouri requires minimum of $250,000]
- Covered Activities: Private Detectives, Investigators, and Private Security
- Excluded Activities: Many Insurers exclude Auto Repossession, Bail Bond Operations, Executive Security, and other high risk confrontational operations. Additional fees are being charged for retail security operations.
- Cost: Varies dependent upon operations: $600 - $2,000 annually
- Additional coverage for excluded areas, additional employees in small agencies, additional insured (regulating agencies or clients), etc. may be available for additional insurance charge.

The KBI maintains a listing of current agencies that are writing insurance for Kansas private detectives. Contact the licensing agency for a copy; the state Department of Insurance will not be able to provide a list of insurers.
The federal Terrorism Risk Insurance Act is requiring that you either decline or be charged extra for losses associated with terrorist actions.
