This application may be used to make an initial application for a license:

• to engage in detective business as an employee of a licensed private detective agency.
  
  
• to engage in detective business as a officer, director, partner, or associate of a licensed private detective agency.
  
  
• to engage in detective business as an independent private detective, i.e., not employed by a licensed private detective agency and not regularly employing any other person to engage in detective business.
  
  
• as a licensed private detective agency to regularly employ other person(s) to engage in detective business.
  
  
• This application must be completed in its entirety, including all accompanying documents, before it will be processed. An incomplete application may result in a processing delay. Due to the length of the waiting period for the FBI record check, the Attorney General/Kansas Bureau of Investigation may take up to 90 days to process a completed application.   The application must be accompanied by:
  

  
  
  • Two (2) color photographs, I/l/4 inches wide by 1 1/4 inches long (passport size), which were taken within 30 days before the application is submitted. Polaroid photographs are -not acceptable.
    
    
  • Two classifiable sets of fingerprints of the right and left hand taken by a law enforcement agency on fingerprint cards provided by the Attorney General/Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The name of ,he agency and the name of the person taking the prints must be clearly identified thereon.
    
    
  • Five (5) Certificates of Reference by persons who are not related by blood or marriage, who have read your application.
    
    
  • Except for an employee of a licensed private detective agency, verification of a corporate surety bond in the amount of $100,000; a certificate of insurance showing general liability insurance which provides coverage in the amount of $ 1 00,000 for bodily injury or property damage caused by negligence and errors or omissions; or verification of $100,000 cash deposit with the state treasurer.
    
    
  • Completed written examination covering the Private Detective Licensing Act and regulations.
    
    
  • The applicable non-refundable fee(s) based on the following schedule, prorated for the months for which the license is issued, i.e., until December 31 of the year following the year when issued. Assume 3 months from time of application to time of issuance. For example, an employee application submitted in February will be issued in May, and thus the fee is: 20 months x $10.00 = $200.00.
    
    
    
    • Employee of private detective agency prorated at $10.00 per month
      
    • Independent private detective prorated at $10.00 per month
      
    • Officer, director, partner or associate of private detective agency who intends to engage in detective business prorated at $4.00 per month
      
    • Private detective agency prorated at $10.00 per month
      
    
    
  • Subtract $15.00 from your application fee if you paid for the application packet materials.
    
    
  • Make money order, cashiers check or personal check payable to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
    

    In order for a private detective agency license to be granted, each officer, director, partner or associate must qualify, regardless of whether those persons intend to actually engage in detective business. Thus each officer, director, partner or associate of the agency must submit a completed private detective application form.
    

    In completing this application, please bear in mind that any false information submitted in this form or any accompanying documents, or falsification of the fingerprints or photographs, constitutes grounds for denial of the application, and may subject you to criminal prosecution. The truthfulness and correctness of all information offered in this application must be verified by signing the application before a Notary Public.

    Upon approval of this application, the license and (except for agencies) a pocket identification card will be mailed to out. The license will be valid until December 31 of the year following this year, and will then be renewable every two years. A renewal application will be mailed to you in the Fall of the expiration year.
