What is Required to Become a Licensed Private Detective in Kansas? To become a licensed private detective, the Kansas Detective Act requires:
- That you submit a completed application form and applicable fee.
- That you submit two photographs taken within 30 days of the date of application
- That you submit- two classifiable sets of fingerprints.
- That you submit 5 Certificates of Reference.
- That you submit- verification of graduation from high school or hold a GED.
- That you be at least 21 years old and of good moral character.
- That you not have been convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanors within the past 10 years.
- That you are not incompetent, incapacitated or impaired by reason of mental condition, deficiency or disease.
- That you do not evidence current addiction to, dependence on or abuse of alcohol or a controlled substance.
- That you have a $ 100,000 corporate surety bond, or general liability insurance providing $100,000 of coverage for bodily injury or property damage caused by negligence and errors or omissions, or deposit $100,000 with the State Treasurer.
- That you pass an open-book examination on the Private Detective Licensing Act.
- To obtain application materials, send $15 to Private Detective Licensing, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, 1620 SW Tyler, Topeka, Kansas, 66612. This amount will be subtracted from the application fee if you decide to submit an application.
